Dear Parent/Carer
The Westminster School is proud to be a part of the Sandwell Forest School Initiative, The John Muir programme and the Duke of Edinburgh Award, which provides wonderful outdoor learning experiences for our pupils which enhance their learning.
Forest School and outdoor learning aim to engage children and young people with the natural environment. Activities have a strong emphasis on raising self-esteem, confidence and independence.
An integral element of the session is that children and young people will experience the outdoors on a weekly basis and in all weathers. This may be onsite or offsite.
During the sessions, children can complete outdoor activities such as den building, making campfires, outdoor crafts and using hand tools whilst learning how to care for the natural environment.
On your child’s outdoor learning day, they will need to come to school dressed in clothes appropriate for the weather to be outside on the day eg walking boots, wellington boots, waterproof coat, hat, scarf, jeans/joggers.
Many Thanks,
Jodie Gordon
