25 June 2026

Good afternoon

Over the past week, our staff have worked tirelessly to ensure the school remained a safe and comfortable environment during the period of exceptionally high temperatures. We have continuously monitored classroom temperatures and implemented a range of measures to reduce the impact of the heat, including increased ventilation, enhanced hydration opportunities, adjustments to the school day where possible, and the cancellation of non-essential off-site activities. We have also carefully considered the requirements of our examination timetable throughout this period as well as the remaining activities for our leavers.

Following a review of the latest weather forecast, current warnings and our operational risk assessment, we have made the difficult decision to close the school to all students on Friday 26 June 2026.

This decision has not been taken lightly. Forecast temperatures are expected to reach levels that would significantly affect our ability to provide a safe learning environment. In addition to conditions within the school, we have considered the risks associated with travel to and from school, particularly for students using transport during the hottest part of the day.

By communicating this decision in advance, we hope families have sufficient time to make alternative arrangements where necessary. We are also informing transport providers, the Local Authority and other relevant agencies of this decision.

The school is expected to reopen as normal on Tuesday 30 June 2026 (school has an INSET Day on Monday 29 June 2026).

We appreciate the decision will impact on our leavers and the events planned for tomorrow.  However we will seek to reschedule these events for leavers and will communicate these at the start of next week.

We appreciate the continued support, understanding and cooperation shown by our students, families and staff throughout this period of exceptionally challenging weather.

Thank you.
