24 June 2026

Good morning

The whole school community have been working tirelessly to keep everyone safe and cool in the challenging weather conditions this week. We have been monitoring the internal classroom temperatures and taken measures to mitigate the risk to the entire school community. We have produced risk assessments and provided additional measures for air circulation, extra hydration and cancelled non-essential offsite visits to this point. We have also needed to consider our external examination timetables throughout this time. I would like to thank all of the students, staff and parents for their positive response to these challenging circumstances.

The school has been closely monitoring the weather forecast and when looking at the predictions set for Thursday 25 June 2026, we have made the difficult decision to close for all students. We have taken into consideration the predictions of 36°c for tomorrow and our ability to keep everyone safe when in school. We have also considered the risks while travelling to site on transport particularly at the peak temperatures at the end of the school day. There continues to be a red warning of extreme heat for Thursday and the impact to the whole school community has been considered.

I hope this advance warning will allow for you to make arrangements for your young people to be catered for Thursday 25 June 2026 as I know the challenges this can present when decisions are made at short notice. We will inform transport teams and the local authority about this decision.
The school is expected to open as normal on Friday 26 June 2026.

Thank you for your cooperation and support during these challenging times.
